Be a pineapple: stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside

In honor of these awesome LOT 801 pineapple joggers, I am dedicating this post to sharing some of the health benefits of pineapples. In fact this sweet tropical fruit carries health benefits so strong that it can help the body fight off several chronic diseases.

They are a good source of many nutrients, such as vitamin C, manganese, copper and folate. Believe it or not, pineapples are also the only source of the plant compound bromelain. And it’s bromelain that is associated with many of the health benefits.

Here are just 5 health benefits of pineapples:

Boost your Immune System: As mentioned, pineapples are a great source of Vitamin C. A single serving has more than 130% of your daily requirement. Also, Vitamin C is mainly associated with reducing illnesses and boosting the immune system by stimulating the activity of white blood cells and acting as an antioxidant to defend against the harmful effects of free radicals.

Cancer Prevention: This amazing fruit is also rich in other antioxidants, including vitamin A, beta carotene, bromelain, various flavonoid compounds, and high levels of manganese. The abundance of antioxidants in pineapples helps fight the free radicals. This also helps to hinder the process of cell damage and can help prevent several types of cancers.

Digestion: pineapples are a great source of fiber, which can aid in a healthy digestive system. Forget prunes and get your pineapple on! Maintain Bone Health: get high amounts of manganese from your pineapple, which is essential in the strengthening of bones, as well as their growth and repair. Manganese is the most prominent mineral in pineapple, and a single serving can deliver more than 70% of your daily requirement of this essential mineral.

Vision Health: pineapples are a source of beta carotene which is linked to boosting eye health and preventing age-related eye deficiencies.

Healthy Gums: who knew pineapples also improve oral health? They do! Stronger gums and teeth coming right up!

Note: always be sure to speak with your health care provider to ensure you are consuming just the right amount of pineapple in your diet. Of course, it is your total nutrition regimen or overall eating pattern that is most important in disease prevention and achieving good health.

To conclude, I love adding pineapple into my morning smoothie for a tropical twist or even tossing them into my midday salad for a refreshing touch. Regardless of how you decide to enjoy this fruit, your body will certainly thank you for it.
