Christa's Breastfeeding Story

Christa's breastfeeding journey story on The Little Milk Bar.png

So I guess I will start of with my first born he is now 6. I didn’t even question whether or not I would breastfeed my baby I just knew I would. When I had my son I started off breastfeeding and pumping form day one. It seemed to be going great in the beginning weeks. Painful, but pushing through it. Unfortunately, I did not have any support at that time and I did not have any family members that had breastfed their children.

So it seemed as I had no one to turn for any guidance. I can remember talking to my mom and my mother in law who never breastfed explaining the pain and the long nights and everything that goes into breastfeeding. What I was searching for was some motivation, someone to say “you got this!” or “I promise it will all be worth it!”.

But instead all I heard was “you don’t have to breastfeed just give him formula” and “just stop already you have done enough”. So I stopped breastfeeding at 3 months and used up my freezer supply and then started him on formula.

Today I have a 4 month old who I am exclusively breastfeeding. It is easier this time around as I have so much more support and motivation. Thanks to a good friend that has went through it and all of the wonderful support online. But I still hear things form close family that is anything but supportive, “omg, how long are you going to breastfeed?”, “you need to give him a bottle already”, “you shouldn’t breastfeed past 6 months they get too clingy”.....it makes me cringe!!! I can’t believe there are actually people out there who think this.

Who think naturally feeding your baby is not normal or it’s weird. Thankfully I have more determination this time and online support I can use to keep me going. I really do wish I breastfed my oldest longer and kept that bond between us a little longer but I am thankful to be giving it another shot. It’s just amazing how much different I feel this time around. Confident, determined, and proud. I love being his food source and seeing his happy little face makes it all worth it!
Oh and I do not cover! #dropthecover
