Big Bad Halloween Workout
This time of year it's tricky staying away from all of the treats! Reese's, Snickers, Twix, Tootsie Rolls, oh my! (Clearly I love chocolate)... and they're all so perfectly portioned. One tiny bite, just a little snack-sized bar, that won't hurt, right? Well, we all know it’s actually like multiply that by 5 ... or 10 ... a day and that's reality. Haha!! Post trick-or-treat, parents turn into the big bad wolf, hunting for their kids' candy bags. What big teeth we have, to chomp down all of that sugar.
Next thing you know, it's "what big legs I have", "what big belly I have", "what big booty I have". We’re stuck with a couple extra pounds and a little extra jiggle and it’s all Little Red Riding Hood’s fault.
Do you know how many calories are in those "snack size" treats? It’s spooky, when you consider how much you REALLY eat. The calories, the fats and the sugar adds up fast! Here's a little break down for you. Let’s shed some light on 10 of the most popular candies.
*Calories are for the Halloween snack-sized versions.
- M&Ms peanut butter 95
- Skittles 80
- Snickers 80
- Twix 80
- Starburst 2 pack 40
- Whoppers 100
- Pay Day 90
- Reese's Peanut Butter Cup 110
- Dots 70
- Kit Kat 70
You’d have to jog for about 10 minutes to burn off just one Reese's Peanut Butter Cup! We've already determined no one eats just one. Have no fear, FitElyse is here! This Halloween we aren't going to pack on the pounds. Yes, we can still have some candy, but we have to work for it.
Here's your sweet tooth workout:
For each of the following candies, do these exercises. It'll make you think twice and it'll boost your daily workout.
- 1 snack-size chocolate bar = 1 minute of Burpees
- 1 mini pack (Skittles, M&Ms, Milk Duds, Reese's Pieces, etc) = 50 squat hops
- 1 pack Starburst, Twizzlers or Smartees (who eats these, anyway? Besides my 3 year old) = 1 minute of star jumps
- 1 Tootsie Roll mini = 50 crunches
- 1 box raisins = hahahhaha, ya right! Kids chuck those straight into the trash. FYI: Do not hand out raisins! Your attempt to teach kids to eat healthy is probably a little, dare I say, lame.
For those of you who have willpower that's mightier than that big bad wolf, pretend you ate one Twix, two Tootsie Rolls, one mini pack of Skittles, one pack Smartees and one Snickers... try the aforementioned workout for those treats a few times a week until Halloween is long gone.
Now you're out of the woods! Bring on Halloween! Enjoy a few treats this time of year and use my little tricks to live happily ever after.
