Self-love 101

It’s February and since it’s the month of love, this post is dedicated entirely to YOU and the importance of self-love. As mothers, we often put everyone and everything before ourselves. Often we are left exhausted and overloaded with caffeine. This stops now.

A healthy mother (physically and emotionally) is a happier one, so let’s do a quick refresher on three things that can help promote self-love.

 1.     Make time to move. We put off workouts, yoga or that run because we’re tired or because we’re too busy juggling work and day-to-day mom life. Going forward, commit to move. Schedule time in your calendar to exercise and follow through as you would any other commitment listed in your agenda. Getting a sweat on will improve your energy levels, help you feel better about yourself and of course, will be good for your heart … and a healthy heart is the foundation of self-love.

2.     Nourish your body with “good” food. No one ever felt amazing after a greasy meal … okay maybe in our younger years to soothe a hangover. But let’s talk about today; choose balanced meals and healthier options on the menu. Opt for foods that will keep you satisfied longer and not having you suffering from a major sugar crash during your toddler’s swim class.

3.     Set aside some “mommy time”. Schedule that manicure and pedicure you’ve been putting off. Say yes to dinner with your good friend who you haven’t seen in ages. You deserve some time to unwind without the kids … and without the guilt. This is such an important part of the self-love process. Remember, no guilt!

By no means is practicing self-love narcissistic, but rather it is necessary. Your family needs you to be confident, happy and healthy. As a mother, you are the glue that holds everything together. Okay, that’s a biased statement, but I believe it.

Mama, what does self-love mean to you? Whatever it is you believe deep down, don’t ignore it this time. This month is all about love, so take the time to love yourself and give a little bit more to YOU … because you deserve it!
